De Delvers are a Belgian Dutch-singing post-punk and new wave band and were one of the clients of my freelance venture Pixel Brand. They were looking for someone who could record and edit video content to promote their music across their social media channels.
Over a period of six months I recorded and edited several video projects for the band and photographed them for promotional use, including:
• Roadtrip – “In het spoor van De Delvers”
• The official music video for their single Poolnacht
• A live performance at Cinema Plaza Duffel
• Their Siglo XX cover video series
We filmed several hours of footage across different locations. The main challenge was capturing the right atmosphere for the Poolnacht music video while maintaining the raw aesthetic that fits the band’s style.
In addition to the video work, I organized and directed a photoshoot with the band to create promotional imagery they could use across their social media and press materials.
After filming, I reviewed and filtered the recorded material based on quality and usability. The selected footage was then edited into the final HD videos, with the audio carefully synchronized to ensure a clean and professional result.
To enhance the visual atmosphere of the Poolnacht music video, I created visual effects that emulate the look and texture of Super 8mm film, giving the video a nostalgic and gritty aesthetic.
Filming in low-light environments with a DSLR camera can be technically challenging. This project reinforced how important equipment and lighting conditions are when trying to maintain consistent image quality during night shoots.
The videos created during this collaboration became some of the most watched content on the band’s YouTube channel.
Because of the amount of content we produced, the band was able to continue publishing new material throughout the Covid pandemic, helping them maintain their online presence during a period when live performances were limited.
The photographs taken during the project were also used in press coverage, including an article in HLN (Het Laatste Nieuws), one of Belgium’s largest news outlets.
It's so great working with Wouter; he's fantastic, his work is endlessly creative.
We love how he works; he's always on time and brilliant behind the camera.
